How to Get the Most Out of Your Load Credits

Promo Codes for Globe, Smart, Touch Mobile, Talk n Text, Sun Cellular and DITO Telecommunity

Promos—all consumers love them. And for good reason: promos can squeeze every thin peso for all (and maybe more than) it’s worth, letting a consumer get more without actually paying for more. Promo codes can be used with your Morbie load credits so that you can get the most out of them, whether it’s in the form of unlimited local SMS or unlimited IDD (International Direct Dial) minutes.

Here are some promos we’ve found from the major networks in the Philippines. A few of these are for local calls/SMS, but most are for international communications. There are also data/Internet promo codes in separate tables.

Notes to Remember:

  • Promo use procedures vary. For example, while some promos for IDD call discounts require the user to just dial internationally the usual way, some require users to also add other numbers (specified by the service provider) to the formula. These promos are marked with an asterisk in their “How to Activate It” column. To learn more about them, consult your service provider.
  • International call and SMS promos don’t apply to all countries. This means that it’s up to the service provider which countries you can call or send SMS to using promo discounts. Again, consult your service provider to learn more.
  • Promos expire. At the time of this article’s creation, the codes listed here were still valid, but that may change in the future if a network chooses not to renew or extend a promo. The general rule is that a promo is still valid if you get a confirmation message after sending in a code—otherwise, it’s probably expired already.
  • Minimum maintaining balance may be required. Not all promos require a minimum balance, but some do. Say a person has P30 in his prepaid account. He wants to avail of a promo that costs P30 to activate. However, that promo also requires a minimum balance of P1. This means the person can’t use the promo unless he adds at least P1 to his account for a total of P31 load credits (P30 will pay for the promo and P1 will be to meet the minimum balance requirement).

Here’s a handy tip: most service providers tend to set their minimum balance requirements for promos no higher than their per-minute rate for calls to other networks. It would thus be reasonable to assume, if you don’t know the actual minimum balance requirement for a promo, that you should have at least that much load (the cost per minute for a call to another network) left in your account. For example, if we’re talking about a promo from Smart and the cost per minute for a call from a Smart number to a number from another network is P7.50, you should aim to leave at least P7.50 in your load/credit balance after activating the promo.

  • Time your calls. This is so that you don’t end up having to pay for just a few extra seconds on each call if you’ve activated a promo code that gives you a specific number of call minutes.

Alternatively, you can activate per-second call charging, which some service providers offer. Globe (and by extension, Touch Mobile), for example, offers a 6-second pulse charging rate for international calls with its IDD Sakto Calls promo: calls to USA, Canada, UK, Hawaii, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and Equatorial Guinea are all only P0.15/second on this promo and calls to anywhere else in the world are P0.30/second. To activate it, all you have to do is prefix put 12800 before the country code when dialing internationally.

Take note, though, that using per-second or x-second pulse charging rates is really only worthwhile if you’re bad at timing calls. If you can monitor your calls’ durations properly and end them on time, it’s better to stick to regular rates because they tend to be cheaper on a per-minute basis.

  • Some of the promo codes for the major networks work with their “sub-brands”. For example, many Smart promos are available for Talk n’ Text subscribers. Don’t immediately assume that this is true of every promo you run into, though. Again, go with the confirmation message rule: if you don’t get one after sending in a code, it might not be available.

Also, promo requirements may vary across the brands. For example, if a promo is available to both Globe and TM users and has a minimum balance requirement, it’s very likely that the Globe MBR will be higher than the TM MBR.

Keep in mind that this isn’t a comprehensive list: promos expire and are replaced by new ones regularly. Still, it’s a good starter for those who aren’t familiar with the discounts they can get from their networks. In fact, we’re inviting you to please forward or share this with others who might be able to use it. The big network brands have surely made enough money of off us to survive our saving some money here and there.
